About

I am a Lecturer in Writing and Literature at Deakin University, Victoria, Australia. I recently published Metafiction and the Postwar Novel: Foes, Ghosts, and Faces in the Water (2021) with Oxford University Press. The book was shortlisted for the Australian University Heads of English Prize for Literary Scholarship. I am a Kluge Fellow at the Library of Congress in Washington D.C. from 2023 to 2024.

In November 2021, I won the Landfall Essay Competition for ‘The New Man’, a work about Jewish diaspora, my family, and my life in London. I am also the author of the 2015 book, Ruth, Roger and Me: Debts and Legacies (Bridget Williams Books). The work examines the lives and experiences of those brought up in the wake of New Zealand’s economic reforms of the 1980s and 1990s, and features interviews with major figures from the period.
